What “runs in your browser” actually means here

Every tool on this site does its work on your device. That is not a marketing line — it is enforced by the architecture:

  • The file you pick is read with the File API and processed in memory.
  • Format libraries (PDF, images, archives) are loaded as ordinary front-end code.
  • There is no upload endpoint for tool input. Not a disabled one — none exists.

The practical consequence: you can open a tool, disconnect from the network, and it still works. That is a reasonable way to verify the claim yourself.

A few features do need the server: encrypted transfer, the forum, and AI customization. Those are clearly separated in the interface, and each one states what it sends.

Why go to this trouble? Because most "free online converter" sites are upload services with a nicer front end. The file leaves your machine, sits in someone's bucket, and a privacy policy is the only thing standing between it and a data broker. We would rather not hold that material in the first place.

The disconnect test is the useful part of this. Worth adding: even the transfer feature derives its key locally, so the plaintext never exists server-side.

This is also why the heavier tools load slowly the first time and then don't. Nothing is being fetched on every open.

From the server side: there is genuinely no handler that accepts a document body for tool input. Nothing to misconfigure later.
